Teak Treat and Mould Suppressant no longer available

Some new research has highlighted that one of the raw materials in these products, disodium octoborate, may present higher risks to human health than previously thought. As a result, the European Commission has re-classed it to a substance of ‘Very high concern’. This new classification means that disodium octoborate is now covered by a different set of regulations.

At this time it is not clear, how or when, this may affect UK regulations. However, whilst we are no longer part of the EU, we have looked at the new data and decided that it is safest to follow the new regulations from the European Commission.

This new classification means that, in Europe, any product containing more than 0.3% of disodium octoborate must not be sold to the general public and it becomes a product that is available only to professional users. Our Teak Treat and Mould Suppressant both contain disodium octoborate and so we have taken the decision to remove this from our websites and will no longer sell this to the general public.

If you are a professional user and would like to continue to use either of these products then please contact us. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but hope that you understand the need to restrict the sale of products to the public which have the potential to cause harm.

We will review our decision if further information becomes available.
